The story goes that Sang Nila Utama, a Srivijayan Prince from Palembang saw a creature he thought was a lion and named the island Singapura which means Lion City in Sanskrit. But based on facts and Singapore's history, there were no lions ever in Singapore.
3. Singapore is both the country and its capital
Monaco, the Vatican City, and Singapore are the only three city-states in the world. It’s strange to think it doesn't have a capital, but that the fact. Singapore consists of sixty-three islands. But, there is no capital for Singapore.

5. Singapore has changed the time zone 6 times
For 36 years, Singapore was 7.5 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). In 1982, the Singapore Standard Time was redefined to be 8 hours ahead of GMT.
The story behind it is that East Malaysia was GMT +8.00 but West Malaysia was GMT +7.50. Malaysia decided to standardize their timing but it'd be awkward for Singapore to be the only one who's 7.5 hours ahead of GMT. So, they changed it.
6. Singaporeans are the fastest walkers on this planet
According to research by the British Council, Singaporeans walk a lot and have the fastest walking speed. On average, Singaporeans walk 18 meters in 10.55 seconds. That's approximately 6.15km in an hour!
7. Singapore in the USA
Singapore is also the name of Michigan's famous ghost town. Singapore, Michigan, was founded in 1836 by New York land speculator, who was hoping to build a port town to rival Chicago and Milwaukee. At its height, the town boasted of three mills, two hotels, several general stores, a renowned bank, and was home to Michigan's first schoolhouse.
